There should be no excuses about "commercial secrets" in the deal on the sale of the Giurgiulesti International Free Port (GIFP) by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), says Denis Shova, Chisinau Municipal Council (MCC) Councillor from Our Party.

He said on TVC21 on Tuesday night that Moldovan citizens "should know what is happening to the port, which provides the only access to the sea for Moldova's economic agents."

Sova said Our Party has consistently advocated transparency in any processes related to state property.

"We have always said that any transaction, any contract and changes related to state property should be as transparent as possible. There should be no excuses and commercial secrecy here - people should know what, how and why things are happening. Unfortunately, apart from some general phrases about these changes, we don't know any specific details: neither how it happened initially, nor how it is happening now," Sova said, emphasizing that 'the port must be in state management to be used as an element of export and import development'.

In mid-April, the EBRD announced the launch of a "structured M&A process through an international tender to identify potential strategic and financial investors who can contribute to the further successful long-term development of this strategic asset for the Republic of Moldova".
